Premieres

October 10, 2010, another new "class-grass" composition of mine was premiered. Graminy and the River Arts Choir performed Water Grass Place, a 40 minute suite for class-grass ensemble and choir, at the River Arts Center in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.

April 20, 2010, a new "class-grass" composition of mine premiered in a special free Earth Week concert celebrating the 40th Earth Day and the 40th Anniversary of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. The concert was titled Ecotones: A Musical Ecology of Wisconsin, and features all pieces by University of Wisconsin-Madison composers. My composition, "Gatherings," was performed by Graminy, which is Chris Wagoner (fiddle), Shauncey Ali (fiddle and viola), Mary Gaines (cello and voice), Chris Powers (steel-string guitar), and me (mandolin). The performance took place at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison.

My composition, The Wick of the Land, was premiered May 13, 2007 by the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society at a concert of rural-themed music organized by the Wisconsin Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. The concert was part of an Academy exhibition on Wisconsin's People on the Land at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. The Wick of the Land represents my musical, and sociological, response to the works in the exhibit.
